Meetings Management Database
A professional association needed an upgrade to their meetings registration management software. MS Access to the rescue.
I developed a MS Access-based database tool that enables a professional association to manage its continuing education meetings. The tool's features are very basic, but it delivered on expectations.
The trick was mapping their existing workflow/registration process and mirroring it within the tool. Had to create the entire data model. For ease, I utilized a slightly de-normalized schema.
I intend to continually upgrade the tool as needs change/warrant and eventually convert into web application to tie with their online membership managment tool I also developed. (I used an existing framework for that project)
Tools: MS Access 2002, Visual Basic for Applications (VBA)

Erin & Peter's Wedding Website
It's the official Erin Mulligan and Peter Graber wedding website - our way to share info with family and friends.
First off - I was given no real choice in this one; sort of like an offer I couldn't refuse. I was threatened that if it wasn't done - and made too look real purdy - I may not be walking down the aisle afterall...
Erin had this idea of a little website for our wedding. It would be perfect to have friends/guests visit to share info and such. After I saw what templated-sites like the WeddingChannel offered, I grabbed a cup of coffee and got to work.
The Photos & Guestbook page relies on a couple of PHP/Mysql scripts I wrote. Erin and I are informed by email when someone makes a post. The image gallery churns through a directory, looking for folders and images, and offering links and thumbnails.

The Capital City Toastmaster Tool
Created a unique little tool to assist members of a public speaking club in distributing announcements and notices.
For anyone who has ever been in a Toastmasters club knows, each meeting is ran by the 'Toastmaster'. A key part of this responsibility is notifying members who have roles during the upcoming meeting, announcing the theme of the meeting, who's speaking, etc. This is commonly done via email and but can take time, especially for professionals. Hunting down the participant's and their email addresse is a pain.
To address this pet peeve, I developed a little tool for my club's members to access and utilize in sending these meeting notices. The challenge was to make the user interface responsive and interactive so as to limit errors. Overall, I produced it for the learning benefit and the challenge.
Specs: Developed complete XHTML/CSS/Javscript/MySql/PHP/Ajax.

Corporate News Desk Mini-App
A little script that I wrote that drives the Audax Solutions News Desk. It features Email-To-A-Friend, an RSS Feed, printer friendly versions, and other interactive functionality.
Audax felt it might be a good idea to start publishing a variety of news items on their site. I wrote a PHP/MySql script that interacts with a simple 1-table database . Within the db, all images and resources are stored, making each story easy to re-purpose. Admins log into their Control Panel and rely on phpMyAdmin to update. Doing so saved them development time and money.
The key difference with this little script versus others is its use and implementation of user-friendly URLs. This should help spiders to devour the contents more readily - a key to SEO.

Audax Corporate Web Site
The corporate web site for Buffalo-based Audax Solutions, a ASO/PEO provider.
The thing with this site that took the most work was writing the copy. To do so, I had to educate myself about the industry and subsequently work to position the copy around the companny's core value: service choices for small businesses. Audax is currently a rare-breed in the PEO space in that it offers a new model of services: Administrative Services. Traditionally, PEO's should the liability burden of the employee. This is priced into the service and is costly for small firms. ASOs are addressing this and lowering price points.
Validated XHTML/CSS. Conducted search optimization as part of build-out.
